Created Issue: Migrating test cases to TFS 2012 [10097]

I tried to import some test cases to TFS 2012, using the tool and it is not working as expected.
In the field mapping page, the 'Next' button remains dimmed and not able to proceed further.
Please note: The same file can be successfully imported to TFS 2010, with the same field mapping.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to use the Test Case Plus tool on my 64-bit Windows 8 laptop. The tools crashes after selecting fields from an Excel spreadsheet. Here are the steps;

1. select Excel as the import option
2. pick a worksheet and fields
3. hit next ==> crashes here with a 'Test Case Migrator Plus has stopped working' msg

Is this a known issue?

When setting a check mark in the option "Multiple test steps are present in single cell separated by new line character" in the Miscellaneous step, no test plan is created in TFS/MTM. If I run the tool (btw a great tool!) with precisely the same setup without checking the above option, everything works fine: a test plan is created which is browsable in MTM.I have test steps for each test case within a single cell in my Excel file, so for me it is critical to enable this option.

There is now a patch for this. Patch Id 14033. We required this fixing for one of our projects while a low impact problem it was quite irritating.

This has been tested for our scenarios. The fix is a low impact change so should have no side effects. But please check before adding to a live environment.

I would like to import "shared steps" from excel with the Test Case Migrator Plus. Is it possible ?
 
I have not found any information on this topic.

This would be extremely helpful, A large number of our test cases contain ONLY shared steps. If we had the ability to import shared steps, we could then link them to the test cases.

I have installed "Test Case Migrator Plus" (TestCaseMigratorPlus(Excel-MHT) V1.0 RC2 Binaries). I successfully completed a user import of user stories with no Links Mapping, using an import xls file with 3 user stories which included an ID column:

I then attempted to import more user stories but with Links Mapping selected - I setup a xls input file with 4 records that included ID and Parent ID columns (see attachment 1):

The data import failed. At the end of the import execution, I received the Migrate "Failed" error dialog popup including:
 
X Failed Migrate Work Items Specified argument was out of the range of valid values
 Parameter name: id
X Failed Process Links Object reference not set to an instance of an object
X Failed Publish Report No Workitems are migrated
 
My sample import file closely resembles the example as shown in 2.2.2 Requirement record of the "Links Mapping (Excel) – Internals - Readme" document (see attachment 2). Please help!!!

previously this message I have to Try with different credentials option, then the tool connects with the server because it's showing me the Project name but no item in Work Item Type list.

Any help available?

We are unable to Order test case, if we import test cases from testcasemigratiorplus using Order Test case feature in MTM, test case order is working in MTM "PLAN" tab, and same order is not displayed in MTM "TEST" tab. If we write test cases without importing through testcasemigratiorplus, we are able to see the order properly in both tabs.

Could you please look in to it?

We have this problem with latest version on 6-18-12. Good tool but some of our test people can't use it. It is impacting our ability to use TFS for and it's testing features.

After diging up a bit in the code of the tool, it seems like the issue is related to the fact that you are using alternate credentials to authenticate to the Team Server.

When using an UICredentialProvider to connect to a TeamProjectCollection, Only Authenticate() and EnsureAuthenticated() will display the login dialog. Any other method calls that fail due to the user not authenticating will result in TeamFoundationServerUnauthorizedException being thrown, which is exactly situation you are in…

Adding a simple EnsureAuthenticated call to the TeamProjectCollection, prior any other query to TFS, ensures that you get a chance to pass your credentials to TFS.

In the file WorkItemGenerator.cs, add the hilghted row as shown in attachment.

Failed - Migrate Work Items - Value cannot be null.

Commented Issue: Imported Validated Steps do not auto Fail the Test Case [7659]

After importing our tests, we discovered during test execution that the Test Case is not automatically failed when the End Test is pressed without explicitly setting the validated step(s) to Fail. The expected behavior of the tool is to Fail the test in this scenario. All of our directly created tests cases behave correctly.

The only way to fix this is to make a dummy edit to the text of a validated step and save the Test Case. Given that we have over 2,400 test cases to import, this is not desirable. Has anyone else seen this and or have a better solution? I may try modifying the source of the tool to make that second dummy edit to see if that does the trick.

Below is the test step xml I extracted to see if I could see any differences in the step xml but they appear consistent.

Created Issue: Using Command line creates duplicate work items even though they are linked [8865]

When using the test case migrator plus tool from the command line, I've noticed duplicate work items are created if I run the tool more than once. The first time I run the tool through the command line, the work items are created and linked properly. The second time I run the tool, the work items are created in TFS a second time even though they are already linked. I have debugged through the source code and I see the tool is retrieving the link IDs from the XML file properly.

Note that running through the UI wizard works properly. However, I would like to use the command line.

I download and ran the RC2 binaries to import the sample Excel test cases. It would fail immediately against a Scrum project, but work as designed against an MSF/Agile project.

I don't know if it was the sample data or the utility that failed.
