I am struggling with Step 1. I follow your instructions, but I get the error "Input String not in correct format" as well. The requirements do not get loaded, nor is the a task created named: <DONOTDELETEORCHANGE><TestCaseMigratorPlus><LinksMetaData><Stored as a Task work item>.
If you could email me your xls example that would be good. <a href="mailto:alexszarko@hotmail.co.uk

I'm trying to connect to my fresh TF Service instance and test the migration of work items using tcmimport from within a corporate environment. The TCMImport connection attempt fails as proxy authentication is required, but there's no manual prompts to enter
this.

I get the same thing with the Excel Team tab, so I'm guessing the same mechanism is in play.

Is there a workaround here? Or do I just have to attempt again outside the proxy (i.e. from DMZ etc ...).

Cheers

I might be missing something. When I import from Excel that have multiple steps, it works as described and imports the steps as separate line items in the test case. However, I have some expected results for some of the steps. Is there a way I can import
a specific expect result into a given step?

For example, if I have a 10 step test case, and step 2 and 7 have expected results, I would hope I can put a carriage return on Expected Result 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10.

Thoughts?

Press Enter to Exit...

What is it expecting? After all this, the work items are not created. I was able to successfully migrate one item at a time using the GUI, but we have thousands to do and that is not efficient.

I am running into an issue where I am migrating bugs from excel (pulled out of another system into a spreadsheet with columns matching TFS). I map all the data through the app and it starts to import but about halfway through it stops each time with
the below error:

Failed

Migrate Work Items

There was an error generating the XML document.

Failed

Publish Report

No Workitems are migrated

Since no report is generated I am at a loss as to what the problem is. Any ideas?

Hi,

I need to migrate test cases from HP Quality Center to TFS and to achieve this I've started by exporting my test cases from QC by running a SQL query within the report generator in QC. This resulted in an Excel file where each
test case is represented by one or several rows of data: I use a join in my query so that each test step is joined with the test case data. In other words, I end up with multiple rows of data for one test case, where test case ID, title, description,
etc, is precisely the same, only the test step data is different.

Unfortunately, this format does not seem to be supported by TCMImport - test steps must apparently be either placed in one single cell separated by newline or placed on consecutive rows but without content in any other cells than those related
to the test steps, ie. action and expected result.

It's far from easy to create a SQL query with a table join where some fields are left blank after the first result row is returned, i.e. a query that would yield a data format directly importable by TCMImport. Since it is not uncommon to export
data from a system using SQL queries, I hereby suggest a new feature in TCMImport:
Allow data format for test steps to be in a SQL query similar format - make the Excel row parser able to discover that several rows have the same test case title and if so, ignore any other fields, just read the test steps for each row and
add them to the test case.

Hi,

I would like to know if Test Migrator Plus will support TFS Test Manager 2012.. Will there be a new release of the utility to support this new TFS Test Manager version?

Thanks,

Hi,

I'm having very very slow execution time on my VM followed by an error (see below), this happens only when I set the option to create area paths automatically.

This works sometimes for a very few test cases, but generally slows down and crashes.

To figure out,I recompiled locally, the tool was just sleeping in the WaitForTreeNodeId method. My VM is TFS 2010 SP1...

I also created a unit test project to try the AreaAndIterationPathCreator->Create method

I also get an exception at the following code line :

parentUri = m_css.CreateNode(node, parentUri);

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.tbl_nodes' with unique index 'uq_nodes_parent_name_project_type'. The duplicate key value is (f85d799d-d0f9-47ff-b76c-45c6be4417f5, 8060334d-fef1-442c-8076-2e5bb9a38fdd,
TestImport2, ProjectModelHierarchy).
Error 450005, severity 16, state 1 was raised, but no message with that error number was found in sys.messages. If error is larger than 50000, make sure the user-defined message is added using sp_addmessage.

Can you help me with this ?

Regards,

Vincent

(edit: explained the whole thing better)

I have one field I just get to go away. We don't use the "changed on" data in excel when creating our tests, this only happens with MTM.

Now when I am on the "Field mapping" section, changed date is set to be Mandatory.

But on TFS work item list, its not Mandatory. It has no "REQUIRED" flag yet the Importer thinks there is?

Anyone able to help me out?

I have test cases the various departments have written in Excel and housed in SharePoint. I have created a crawler program that allows the user to select the folder/sub folder and extract all the test cases and apply all of them to a new Excel spreadsheet.
Everything is working great with only one exception. The created date the departments required [original date the test was created] is being moved to an archive date field. The Migration tool appears to be skipping the web part even after I tell it to migrate.
I have actually had to in excel convert the string [read from sharepoint housed excel] to double and use the Conversion function to create the date and load the date into the new Excel spreadsheet. It appears like it skips that field. I have tested this manually
by creationg a date in an excel spreasheet abd it still does not use that date.

Any help to allow the date imported let me know.

Yes, have same problem.
This tool is useless to me w/o an answer for this.
Exporting/Importing records is not a huge leap with Excel.
However, test cases are a nightmare because of test steps. They do not export in a nice fashio (as you see above).
This tool only addresses importing Test cases if you have test steps formatted correctly.

How to we actually MIGRATE from one server to another w/o mass overhead for test steps in the middle?
Currently we have testers migrating 5000 test cases overy by cut/paste of steps because there is not tool to do it correctly.
